What is the Federal Work Study Program?

The Federal Work Study Program is a need-based employment program subsidized by the 联邦 government that allows students to earn a portion of their educational expenses through a meaningful student employment program.

学生 are required to submit a timesheet to their supervisor at the end of each week, via WorkDay. 学生 will be paid on the 15th 每个月的. Your monthly earnings will then be direct deposited to your bank account or receive a paper check depending on your chosen payment method.

学生 can only earn the amount they accepted on their financial aid award package. 例如, if the Federal Work Study award was $2,880, students can only earn $1,440 for the fall semester and $1,440 for the spring semester.


How many hours will I need to work to earn the amount I have been awarded?

学生 will work an average of 10-20 hours per week to earn the full award of $2,880. Working hours may not be logged during class times. If class is cancelled and you work documentation must be submitted.


How many hours can I work each week?

学生 can only work a maximum of 20 hours per week while school is in session, or until they reach their award for the semester of $1,440. 学生 may work during fall and spring breaks if they are behind on their hours and their supervisor approves the adjusted schedule. Working hours may not be logged during class times. If class is cancelled and you work documentation must be submitted.


How do I know w在这里 I will be working?

Your supervisor should contact you with position information before classes begin. 然而, students should reach out to their Supervisor if they do not hear from them before the first week of classes.


Can I work in more than one 学生就业 position at the same time?

No, you may only work in one position at a time.


Will my Federal Work Study earnings be taxed?

是的, 联邦, state and local taxes will be withheld each pay period based on the withholding allowance you submit on the W-4 and K-4 forms.


Will I receive tax documents (Form W-2) at the end of the year?

是的. W-2’s will be available electronically through TigerNet if students sign up to receive an electronic W-2. If they did not choose to receive it electronically, Human 资源 will mail the W-2.


What is the last date a student can work?

The last day a student can work is the last day of finals week each semester.


Am I automatically assigned to the Federal Work Study program every year?

No, students are re-evaluated every year based on FAFSA information and prior year performance.
